Aranda de Duero, Spain

Aranda de Duero is situated in the South of Burgos, a Castile province, only two hours away from Madrid. The river Duero crosses the town and the urban settlement spreads over a flat land at both borders of this river and tributaries Arandilla and Baňuelos.

Very well located,it is compulsory passage from Madrid to the northern country and from Castile to the Spanish northeastern regions. Local capitol, Aranda de Duero has over 30.000 inhabitants and it is facilities' dealer centre for a wide area so-called as "La Ribera". The main economic activity, historically, has been agriculture and especially the wines'growing and production.

While industry is the main sector since 1959, trade has been flourishing and serving the local community since ancient times. In the surroundings, nature has also its place of course and architecture, historical and artistic centers are worth to visit. One would suggest Saint Domingo, or the Silos Monostery that is well known over the world for the Gregorian chants that are performed in its unique romantic cloister.

When it comes to local cuisine and gastronomy, the king of the courses is a roasted lamb served with "the torta", a typical local bread, lettuce and superior local wine. The festival was held in Aranda de Duero in 2005.
